Why did flamenco flourish precisely in Seville’s Alameda de Hércules?
Seville has always been a city in transformation, and in the 19th century it lived through two changes that marked the destiny of this neighbourhood: a new bridge replacing the old bridge of boats, and the arrival of the railway with all its people.
We know that this neighbourhood was also known for its houses of ill repute, but in these micro-stories we will focus on flamenco.
From that crossroads something precious was born: a melting pot of people who began to bring out into the street a talent they had until then kept at home, because they had to make a living beyond their own trade. And so the Alameda went from being a place of passage to an artistic destination that transformed flamenco as we know it today.
Come and walk the exact setting where this transformation took place.
If you enjoyed this story, come and walk with me through the streets where it happened.
